PA Humanities

Overview

PA Humanities came to the Pixel Parlor team looking for a new website to match their recently updated brand identity. Our team worked closely with the PA Humanities team and Paragraph, their branding agency, to help their vision come to life. Their goal was to put an emphasis on social proof to really showcase the impact of their initiatives. We accomplished this through bold statistics, data visualization and testimonials from grantees and local communities.

Agency: Pixel Parlor

Collaborators: Paragraph Inc. (Branding),
Cavallo (Development)

Deliverables: Sitemap, Wireframes, Visual Comps, WordPress Website, User Manual & Training Session

Live Site: pahumanities.org

Discovery

In the discovery phase we learned more about our client through their survey responses. This included aspects such as their mission & vision, their goals, their target audiences, and pain points they were experiencing with their current site. We also went through a competitive analysis where we were able to gain insight into what their peers were doing well, and what trends we were seeing. This helped us determine how we could bring PA Humanities to the next level.

Goals:

  • Showcase the impact of their initiatives and their engagement with the community (community engagement was where they stood out amongst their peers)

  • Clearly communicate their mission

  • Collaborate with their branding agency to ensure the website was inline with their new identity

  • Improve the backend admin experience and add more features/capabilities

Sitemap & Wireframes

After learning more about the client and their audiences we jumped into the sitemap to nail down the navigation of the new site.

Once the sitemap was approved and the content was gathered we started creating the wireframes. We went through multiple rounds of review to make sure all of the content was accounted for, and the structure and interactions were all intuitive for their users. This ensured an optimal user experience for target audiences. In this phase we also made decisions on where to include the stats, graphs and testimonials that would really highlight their impact.

Visual Design

Once we moved into visual design we collaborated more frequently with Paragraph Inc, the branding team, to ensure that the brand elements were consistent with the print collateral they had in progress to ensure a seamless brand experience.

We utilized a very vibrant color palette to draw attention to statistics, maps, and testimonials. We also used text as a background element to call out key words and phrases and add visual interest. We created page templates and guidelines that would help to maintain consistency throughout the site even after handing it over to the client.

Development & Training

We worked with the development team to ensure that everything met the standards we set in visual design and after all parties went through their testing and final tweaks, the Pa Humanities site launched. Subtle animations and movement bring an engaging element to their website that sets them apart.

Built in WordPress Elementor and equipped with a user manual and training session the Pa Humanities team was feeling much more confident in editing their website. They continue to work with our team on the maintenance of their website.

Post Launch

Since launching the Pa Humanities website our team continues to provide support and quarterly maintenance. We have helped them to design & build a couple of new exciting pages. These pages include new initiatives and a celebration of their 50th Anniversary!

Some of these new pages include fun animations such as a wave loading animation and colorful confetti.
